The name Sullivan's Gulch this neighborhood bears comes as a tribute to one of the first farmers that settled in the area, Timothy Sullivan. The term gulch refers to a narrow and steep ravine formed along a stream, this one probably thousands of years ago, during last glacial floods of the Willamette Valley.
This Portland neighborhood sits south of NE Broadway to I-84 (Banfield), between NE 15th and NE 33rd Avenues. It borders Irvington neighborhood to the north and Kerns to the south, also Laurelhurst neighborhood to the east. Homes in the neighborhood are a mix of older stately mansions built at the beginning of 1900s, some of them newly remodeled, mid-century condos with great layouts and character, also newer townhomes that offer an alternative to higher home prices. Total number of households is 1,804.
Being a smaller neighborhood, there aren't many park options, except for the busy Holladay Park, in front of the Lloyd Center Mall, and a smaller park area with playground on NE Weidler St, in the Fred Meier store area.
